The MUSON Choir features fast-rising, talented soprano Chika Nwankwo in its Passiontide Concert on April 13.

 Chika Nwankwo started her musical career at St. Murumba's Catholic Church Jos at the age of 6. On getting to Queens college, the quality of her voice improved remarkably under the tutelage of Mr Kayode Oguntade. She passed MUSON grade 7 singing with distinction and was the first MUSON diploma scholarship winner.


She studied voice under Mr Emeka Nwokedi and in 2008, emerged the best vocal major at the diploma school. Some of her past performances include;
-MUSON festival performance of Beethoven's 9th symphony.
-MUSON symphony orchestra performing Mozarts concerto no 10 in E flat major alongside Maria Aseeva & Ayo Bankole (Jnr).

and recently, she sang at the Flag-off and Grand Finale of the Nigerian Centenary Celebration.

Chika Nwankwo is a graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Lagos and is currently undergoing internship at the National Agency for Food, Drug, Adminstration and Control (NAFDAC).

The MUSON Choir was established as a permanent group in 1995 when Mrs. Francesca Emmanuel and Sir Emeka Nwokedi, two members of the MUSON Artistes Committee, were charged with the responsibility of grooming a Choir for the Society. The Choir hosts and performs at MUSON’s annual Passiontide and Christmas concerts under the direction of Sir Emeka Nwokedi, a renowned music arranger and conductor.

 The Choir’s repertoire ranges from African contemporary works to the works of great music masters including famous cantatas and oratorios. It also performs folk songs of various world cultures. The Choir played a major role in the three-time production of Mozart’s opera, The Magic Flute with the MUSON Symphony Orchestra in 2012.

The Choir performed all the hymns and carols at the Ikoyi Club 1938’s Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in 2013 and is available to perform at a reasonable fee.
